Everything seems to be falling into place, and coming together quickly! I got word today that I have been approved to rent out a small space in the Peninsula Artist’s studio in Downtown San Mateo. I am beyond excited, this will be a great opportunity to get myself established outside of my living room, and be able to expand what I am able to offer.
Along these lines, I got my first vintage letterpress alphabet in the mail today, complete with ligatures and an ampersand! I can’t wait to try them out, I might play with them before I get the most exciting piece of my stationary puzzle… My grandmommy’s printing press! All I can think of is how lucky I am to come from an artistic family, I feel like I have been given a great gift in being able to continue to do the work my grandparents loved to do, combining commercial art, typography, and print making.
Now I have some linoleum to carve, and a classic movie just waiting for me to finish it! In the meantime, here are some pictures of my newest art supply additions!
I chose cyan, red, and gold for my first test prints. I love the bright vintage colors, especially smeared so purposefully in my enameled butcher tray!
My little box of supplies… I have a feeling I’m going to outgrow it fast, but I’m so happy to have a use for the cute red box Mel got me for Christmas!

Your linoleum block in the picture reminds me of drawings my son does ( fellow artist) I remember doing blocks in college art classes in early 70′s..course my subject matter was the Beatles or Peter Max. I am happy for you to get a place of your own to expand and get creative on larger scale… if the two pics here are examples of your eye, you will do well…best of luck.
Thank you Ken! Up til now, I have mostly worked in pen and ink and oil paints. I find carving to require very similar dexterity to pen and ink. It comes out a bit chunkier, but it’s a similar effect… To say I’m in love with the medium is an understatement!
